On the first day of Kimono to Kawaii: Japanese Fashion New York Style we dove head first into the fascinating, surprising, and always fun world of Japanese fashion! The students met with and had a presentation by Nichi Kashihara, the owner of Madame Killer, New York's first Japanese street fashion boutique (Madame Killer), and organizer of the Japanese Fashion Festas in New York City and Sao Paulo, Brazil (check out a video of the highlights: Tokyo Fashion Festa NY).

In just a few short weeks the hit fashion show is taking Sao Paulo, Brazil! |
Then, after a delicious lunch of
onigiri (rice balls) from Oms/b (
Oms/b), the students watched and took part in presentations by Melissa Marra-Alvarez, the workshop's leader and Jen Green from Gina Group (
Gina Group), who gave us an introduction to the fascinating world of Japanese legwear and "nail art."
Tomorrow its off to the boutiques! But first, here's a little inspiration for the road!
